“Physiofit's aim is to help you reach your sporting potential, whatever your age or ability and give you the physical skills that enable you to achieve success at any level.”
Performance enhancement is not just for professional sports men and women.
At Physiofit, we want all of our clients to perform better and achieve their potential. Our core values are to be dynamic and proactive. So if you are need advice on how to get faster, stronger or fitter, the team at Physiofit can help.
Technical progress in a sport is often limited by restrictions or weaknesses in the body. Coaching will not be as effective until the body is able to move more efficiently. Our aim to make your body work better which leads to more consistent performance.

We have our car serviced regularly to prevent it breaking down at just that wrong moment and the same logic and care should be applied to our body. Physiofit believe that we should see you every 6 months just like you see the dentist or optician and identify restrictions, habits or weaknesses that are building up and may lead to pain and injury. If you are going through a growth spurt or are injured these should be more frequent.

Don't let injury and pain disrupt your life - be proactive now and start with a screening to identify any imbalances in your body.

Sports Injuries
There is never a good time to get injured, but at Physiofit we will get to the root of the problem quickly getting you back on the field of play without delay. More importantly we will work with you to establish why the injury occurred and what you can do to prevent recurrence. Our aim is to always return you to sport better prepared than you were before the injury.

Our Approach

Manual Therapy
Listen:
We will send you a questionnaire before your appointment to ensure that when you arrive we know as much as possible about your injury history, training load and your goals. We listen carefully to you gaining an understanding of you as an athlete and your goals.
Assess:
Using our tried and tested screening programme we can identify the areas of your body that are weak and strong and gain a greater understanding of why you are injured and how to get you fit again.

Explain:
We want you to understand what will help you recover quickest, so we take the time to explain what is wrong and most importantly what you can do to help yourself. We discuss with you your treatment options and help you every step of the way.
Treat:
We use a combination of techniques to facilitate healing and prevent recurrence. These include:
-
Manual therapy
-
Massage – including use of hawk grip tools
-
Electrotherapy
-
Complex muscle stimulation units to prevent muscle wasting and regain strength quickly
-
Exercise programmes
-
Taping and strapping
-
Podiatry
-
Bracing and supports – we are a regional fitting centre for DJO and stock Ossur products

Prevention
In order to prevent a recurrence, you need to understand what caused your injury. Sometimes it is just bad luck but many times it is a result of muscles imbalances, conditioning and training load faults.
We will work with you to educate you and provide a long term solution to your fitness with a bespoke exercise programme targeting your specific muscle weaknesses and restrictions.

Sports Massage
As part of either a treatment or prevention programme, soft tissue therapy can aid recovery and allow patients to move more freely.

Hands on deep tissue massage and soft tissue release forms a fundamental part in our treatments and assists in the healing process of injuries and conditions.

Our therapists offer massage for both sporting and non-sporting injuries as well as helping you recover faster from training.
Our sports massage practitioners use a combination of techniques that have been developed to ensure effective and efficient results are gained from each treatment.
Soft tissue therapy includes techniques such as:
-
Sports massage
-
Soft Tissue Release
-
Muscle activation
-
Trigger Point Therapy
-
Myofascial Release
Each have their own unique way of helping the patient perform to their optimal.
Sports Rehabilitation
The transition from plinth to pitch can be a frustrating place to be. The role of sports rehabilitation aims to make this transition as easy as possible. We perform a detailed assessment to gain an understanding of why you are injured and how we might prevent recurrence.

Our rehabilitation programmes are tailored to your individual needs and goals and include a combination of clinical exercise prescription and bespoke conditioning. We ensure your programme is functional, progressive, achievable and fun. You will be given access to your online exercise programme where you can watch videos of your exercises and print out photo instructions and step-by-step diagrams.

We help athletes of all ages and abilities get back to doing what they enjoy and aim to get everyone back to be better than before their injury.
Individual or small group injury prevention and performance sessions

Manual Therapy
In conjunction with our comprehensive injury prevention and performance screening programme, we now offer 1:1 or small group strength and conditioning sessions which incorporate sport specific training, education, sleep and nutritional advice. We can help people new to strength programmes how to move correctly, integrate weight training safely and build a robust body by gradually increasing the demand of exercise and tailoring it towards sport.
These sessions are suitable for all ages and abilities whether you are trying to prevent an injury, looking to improve in your sport or to keep you fit and active in later life.
Our Athletes
We have been fortunate enough to have helped develop many young athletes and shared their pride in helping them reach their potential.
In 2014 we launched our Search for a Star campaign to provide young up and coming athletes with full access to all our services so that they can fulfil their sporting potential. If you know someone who you think would benefit from our support, please do let us and them know.

Sarah is a GB windsurfer, competing both nationally and internationally. She started on a family holiday aged 7 and never looked back. As a junior, she represented TeamGB at the U17 World Championships aged 14 as one of the youngest in the fleet.
After finishing her A-Levels, Sarah has been able to take time out from studying to focus on her windsurfing full time and is reaping the rewards. She was crowned British Freestyle Champion in October 2016, and won two of the three British Slalom events she attended in the 2016 season, leaving her 3rd overall in the series.

Sarah Jackson - Windsurfer
UK Freestyle Windsurf Champion 2016
Our current athletes include:
On the international scene, Sarah came 4th in the Youth (U20) European Championships in April 2016, and more recently came 9th in the Youth (U20) World Championships in April 2017. She is hoping to start competing on the Professional World Tour in September 2017.
Over the winter Sarah has been training out in Tenerife, Cape Town and Bonaire in the Caribbean with some of the best windsurfers in the World. Sarah says, “training with some of the Worlds’ best every day has really motivated me and pushed me to go faster and really try to challenge them where I can. I have improved my speed by 10mph over the course of the winter and can’t wait to see how this will translate onto the race course. Freestyle wise I’ve been landing some of the tricks that I’ve been trying for a while and ready to get back out to Greece to really improve my freestyle.”
Sarah’s results in 2016 have secured her as a National Team Rider with sponsors Roberto Ricci Designs (RRD), Boardwise, Dirty Dog Eyewear, Mystic Boarding and Maui Ultra Fins. She is also an ambassador for Phizz, and has received local support from Active Cheshire and Everybody’s Talented Athlete Support Scheme. Sarah is currently looking for sponsors to help support her campaign to be a professional windsurfer and if you would like to find out more about supporting Sarah, she would love to hear from you. Lucy Roberts - Water-Skier
British Water-Skiing U14 Champion 2016
Lucy is only 12 years old and already competes at national and European level in water-skiing. She first started three years ago on holiday but never thought that it would become such a huge part of her life.

Lucy competes in all three areas of tournament skiing which are slalom, trick and jump.
She has been the British overall girls champion for the last 3 consecutive years, under 10 in 2014, under 12 in 2015 and under 14 in 2016 - despite still being in the under 12 categories last year she wanted to push herself and compete with older and more experienced skiers.
She also ended 2016 season ranked 5th overall in Europe in her age category. An amazing achievement for such a young athlete.
She's been winter training in Florida and the Caribbean over the last year and is hoping for a place on the British under 14 team when they compete at the Europeans this summer. Lucy is already on the British squad.
She competes from May-October, which takes up most weekends as well as training in the week. She travels around the whole country which is a great experience but sometimes tiring.
She keeps fit by playing hockey and football for school, which is Cheadle Hulme school. They also help me stay fit by running specialist sports conditioning classes, which she really enjoys because it is a different sort of training. She also benefits from a Physiofit exercise programme which she does three times a week. This helps her to stay fit and strong and injury free.
Lauren Jones - Gymnast
England Women's Artistic Gymnastics Squad
She started training in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics at Vernon Park Gymnastics Centre in Stockport in 2010 at the age of eight. She competes in all four disciplines: bars, beam, floor and vault.

Since then, she has been a Greater Manchester, a North West and a National Champion, and won the Independent School’s Association National Gymnastics Competition three years in a row.

She has represented Greater Manchester and the North West regularly; winning medals and helping her teams to become champions.

This year she competed in the English Championships and the British Challenge Cup where she finished in the top twenty.

She was selected for the England Gymnastics squad in 2016. She won gold in the club Christmas competition with bronze on vault, gold on beam and gold on floor. She also received a lifetime membership award from my club, which has only ever been awarded once before in the history of the club. She was also presented with her “England colours” by the Coaching Director of the England squad.
2017, has not started too well as she sustained a back injury which Angie is helping her with. However, she is looking at it positively and understands that it is something which most elite athletes need to learn to deal with at some point in their career! Maggie Kirk is helping her to visualise her routines during her recovery period.

Ellie Aldrich - Tennis Player
Ranked 8th in GB U16
Ellie is a young, up and coming tennis player and is making headlines in major tournaments. Ellie started playing when she was 9 years old and prior to this was a gymnast.
Ellie is currently playing for the Cheshire U18’s team and ladies’ team. 2017 has been a really good year for Ellie; she was invited to the grade 1 U16’s nationals at the National Tennis Centre (NTC) and ended up coming runner up! Following her success at the NTC she gained a sponsorship from Wilson for bags, rackets and strings.

In May 2017, she entered the ladies British tour competition in Newcastle and lost narrowly in the final.
In addition to this she won the U18’s grade 2 doubles at Gosling and got to the semi-finals in the U18’s singles.
In summer of 2017 she got accepted into the U16’s grade 1 at Nottingham and got through to the semi-finals where she lost 7-5 7-6.
As a result of the success at these high-level competitions, Ellie has been invited for the first time to attend the National camp at NTC.
Hannah McColgan - Tennis Player
Team GBR U18 Tennis
The last year has been a great time for me competing. She has managed to stay fit thanks to all the injury reduction exercises and strengthening exercises Angie has given her. This has allowed her to compete at a high level and be successful.
During 2016, she represented Great Britain Tennis at u16 Winter Cup, where she won 2 national u18 competitions, her first International tournament and won in the main draw twice in £10,000 ladies events.
On an international level she improved her ranking to 653 in the

u18 juniors after reaching the semi final of the Nike Junior International Edinburgh before the next week in Bournemouth winning her first ever international event.
In-between a busy summer of tennis she also attended JRPC hockey. Her plan for the next year is to play in more Ladies British Tour Events, play £15,000 ladies events, progress her tennis to the next level, improve national and international ranking and achieve a scholarship to an American University to start fall 2018, very busy time ahead!

Shortly after she was given the amazing opportunity to go to the World Championships in Canada for the 2nd time!
Over the winter she has worked with Angie to strengthen her upper body ready for the 2018 season. Angie and Drew Roberts (Neon Personal Training) have worked together to provide Bel with a great strength and conditioning program, that targets strength and mobility.

Aged 9, she won all her swimming (5 categories) events at her first Annual Club Championships Gala at Wilmslow Scorpions, breaking 4 of the clubs long standing records. She went on to clear 3.65m and 3.75m and narrowly missed 3.85m, so set the new record at 3.75m which was a PB of 5cm.

Victoria’s performance exceeded her own expectations when she not only medalled silver at the English Schools National Championships in Gateshead, but was selected to compete in the SIAB International competition a week later, representing England. She had a wonderful experience and came away with a silver medal and eager to take on more challenges and experiences.

Physiofit for Golf
Dedicated golfers spend a fortune on golf clubs, coaching, videos and books! However, many golfers do not consider one vital ingredient for a good swing – their body and personal fitness.
Golf has become a sport in which power, distance and accuracy all play a vital role in improving your game.
Every person is different, so not all golfers will swing the club in the same way, however, there is an optimum way for your body to move and ensuring you are moving efficiently will have a positive impact on your golf swing.

Bad habits like prolonged sitting at school or work and hunched over a computer all day can lead to muscle imbalances in the body, that, if left unchecked can lead to technical swing faults. Golf in itself is an asymmetrical sport, so it is vital to do corrective exercises to keep the body balanced. Once the body is able, technical improvements will follow.

Physical Limitations Can Contribute to:
-
Loss of posture or balance during the swing
-
Inconsistent swing path
-
Poor club face alignment at impact
-
Swing faults – hip slide, reverse pivot
-
Swing compensations - hook shots and shanks
-
Reduced power, accuracy and distance
-
Injury
-
Loss of enjoyment or a higher handicap
The Screening Process
Golf-specific physio, Angie Jackson, will take you through her golf-specific screening process which she designed over 18 years ago. The Physiofit for golf screening will test your physical performance in posture, balance, flexibility, core stability and strength.
The results of the screening enable us to identify any significant structural, postural or muscular restrictions. We then teach you a programme of personalised corrective and golf-specific exercises to help correct these physical limitations and show you how, in just a few minutes a day, you can improve your swing, become more consistent and ultimately enjoy your golf more.

Your fully computerised exercise programme will be emailed out to you along with detailed findings from your assessment for you to share with your golf coach/trainer/professional.

Duration: 1 hour Cost: £99

They are tailored to your individual needs and goals and include a combination of progressive exercise prescription and bespoke conditioning. We will support you as you develop greater strength and flexibility and ensure your programme is functional, achievable and fun. The sessions take place in our brand new gym facility within FITISM, Wilmslow. You will be given access to your online exercise programme where you can watch videos of your exercises and print out photo instructions and step-by-step diagrams to do at home.

Can I Still Have Lessons With My Golf Pro?
Physiotherapists are merely one part of the team you need around you to progress in golf. A golf professional will address the technical issues with your swing.
Your physio report can be sent to your golf professional to help them incorporate and understand the findings in to your swing. We are able to recommend some excellent golf professionals should you not yet have a specific person to work with. We can also arrange trackman, 3D and biofeedback sessions to help you improve in all areas.
Golf professionals find the work that physios do with golfers, enhance their teaching. If the body is willing and able to produce a more efficient swing, technical progress will be faster so everyone is happy.
Please contact our reception on 01625 590444, or email us for details and special offers.
Professional golfers have regular physiotherapy screenings to continually track flexibility and strength so they can identify at an early stage if they are developing muscle imbalances. At Physiofit, we believe that golfers of all ages and abilities will benefit from screening:

We have several levels of package available to suit golfers of all abilities.
Physiofit for Runners
“Regardless of your age, ability or the reason why you run, Physiofit aim to teach you how to run more efficiently so you can run further and faster without pain and therefore enjoy your running”

Physiofit specialise in the treatment, strengthening and coaching of runners and are proud to be recommended as a ‘super-specialist‘ centre by the internationally renowned Canadian Running Clinic www.therunningclinic.com.

The team have received extensive training from running gurus both in the UK and abroad and have integrated their extensive physiotherapy experience with their knowledge of the biomechanics of movement and running to quickly highlight factors that contribute to injury and lack of performance in runners.
Running is a skill and just like learning to swim or ride a horse, it should be taught by an experienced running specialist with lessons to develop good technique. Following an injury, runners tend to rest or seek treatment and then return to the same running style or training load that caused their injury to begin with. Taking time to improve your strength, learn about how to train and develop a more robust running technique will lead to less strain on the body, fewer injuries and therefore increase the amount of time you can run.
Physiofit for Runners is Suitable For:
-
Those who have never run and want to start
-
Those who are returning from injury
-
Athletes trying to improve their running speed or endurance
-
Children, to make sure they learn good technique and develop efficient movement patterns at an early age
-
Gaining a greater understanding of managing load to reduce injury risk
Running technique may change over time or following an injury. A regular running analysis will identify bad habits before they result in injury so should be done at least every 6 months depending upon how often and how far you run and whether you are still growing.

Common Fault Patterns
-
Low cadence
-
Poor posture
-
Heavy landing
-
Excessive bouncing
-
Poor arm movement patterns
-
Over striding
What Do We Do?
Physiofit for runners includes a two-part assessment:
A Running Analysis Will:
-
Identify faulty movement patterns when you run that may lead to overuse injuries such as shin splints, ITB and knee pain
-
Improve your running technique to improve speed and performance
-
Improve your running economy – i.e. the amount of energy you spend to run a set distance

We will video how you walk and run both from the back and side incorporating every level of your body from the head to pelvis to the knee and foot. We will measure your cadence and assess how noisy you are. We observe areas where you lose energy that could be propelling you forward faster with less effort. Many biomechanical analysis assessments only look at the feet and whilst this is important it fails to give you the whole picture.

We use computer software to slow down the footage, frame by frame so you can see clearly what if any movement faults you have that might be slowing you down and causing you pain. We will give you advice on how to correct any technical issues and advise on whether a series of running lessons might be beneficial.

If you are experiencing pain or we believe you have a technical fault due to a restriction or weakness in your muscles, we will advise you to have a biomechanical analysis.
A Biomechanical Analysis
This is a screening of your body where we look at:
-
Digital postural analysis
-
Flexibility
-
Balance
-
Muscle strength and weakness
-
Core control
-
Agility
-
Functional movement patterns
-
Your running history and training load
-
Your footwear

Physiofit for Cyclists
Do you want to reduce pain when cycling or improve your cycling performance?
Here at Physiofit we are the go to people for any cycling related injury or pain. Our specialist cycling and triathlete physiotherapists offer treatment and advise for cyclists by cyclists with a unique combination of cycling and sports medicine experience to help you train safely to achieve your sporting goals.
Physiofit's approach to cycle injuries:
At Physiofit, rather than starting with the bike, our one hour Physiofit for cyclists injury assessment starts with the rider at the centre of our approach identifying the factors that might be contributing to your pain or performance. We assess training load and nutrition allowing us to ensure no aspect is neglected.
Physiofit for cyclist’s injury assessment includes:
-
An assessment of the rider - flexibility, strength and posture both on and off the bike.
-
Measurements of the bike and cleats
-
A video analysis of you on your bike to see how the rider interacts with the 5 contacts points of the bike to your body
-
A food and training diary when required
-
A bespoke treatment plan - this may involve changes to the rider’s bike, strength and conditioning exercises, manual therapy or advice around training load and nutrition.

Is this a bike fitting assessment?
This is NOT a bike fitting assessment. Although, if simple changes to your bike are needed we can make the necessary adjustments but our primary focus is you. The main aim of our cycle injury assessment is to get to the bottom of what is causing your injury.

Costs:
Physiofit for cyclist’s injury assessment: 1-hour with video analysis and set up £99

Remember to bring some cycling shorts, the shoes you cycle in, and of course, your bike!

Imbalances in You Can Create Imbalances in Your Horse....
Physiofit for horse riders includes a two-part assessment aimed at identifying how the rider moves both on and off the horse.
1. Digital Analysis:
Using latest photo and video technology we can analyse how you move and show you the relationship between you and the horse identifying key areas for immediate improvement felt by both you and your horse.

By examining your riding profile, posture, balance, alignment, hand position, weight distribution, and technique you will be able to optimise the way you ride to help improve performance.

2. Rider Analysis:
We also perform a physical assessment of you in the clinic to look at flexibility, core stability, balance, strength, weakness and movement patterns.
Muscle imbalances in the rider can be corrected with physiotherapy and specific riding exercises. Based on the findings, we devise a personalised treatment and exercise programme to correct any areas of weakness and restriction allowing you to ride more effectively.
Rider Analysis is of benefit to riders of all levels and ages across all disciplines.
Physiofit for Horse Riders is run by Emma Wellard, a chartered physiotherapist with a specialist interest in the horse rider's posture and biomechanics and how this might influence the horse and the rider's performance. You will receive professional treatment from a physiotherapist with a unique combination of clinical, Pilates and horse riding experience.
Visits to your own yard or riding school can be arranged dependent upon your facilities.
An additional pro-rata charge based on travel time will be applied.
