Nordic Walking Classes
Join the fastest growing exercise in the UK - Nordic Walking
Walking is something we are all born to do but everyday life tends to cause us to tighten up the muscles in the front of our body and in our hamstrings. Learning to walk well will open up these muscles, strengthens your core muscles and you will feel more energised.

Add poles when you walk and research suggests it increases the value. Nordic Walking is the fastest growing fitness activity in the world and it is easy to see why when you understand the benefits.

The Benefits of Nordic Walking
-
Nordic Walking deploys approximately 90 per cent of your muscles
-
Nordic Walking can reduce stress on the joints by up to 30 per cent.
-
Nordic Walking uses 20 to 40 per cent more calories than normal walking and high-intensity Nordic walking can burn more calories an hour than dancing, jogging, cycling and even playing football.
-
Nordic Walking is often recommended for those recovering from surgery or a cardiac event, those recovering from injuries, arthritis, diabetes and some neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s.
-
Nordic Walking and has been proven to lower body mass index in 12 weeks.
-
Nordic Walkers report the sport improves their posture, as the poles encourage you to walk with your head held high, rather than slumped over.

Correct instruction by a physiotherapist specifically trained in Nordic Walking by market leaders, Nordic Walking UK ensures you get the confidence to explore further and gain all the fitness and health benefits. Physiofit led Nordic walking gives you the added confidence that you are in the safe hands of an experienced health professional competent in taking care of all your health needs.

Nordic Walking is a specific technique and should not to be confused with the technique used by many people when trekking, hill walking or trail running. The alignment of the poles is quite different in Nordic walking, where the poles are held at an angle behind the body not in front placing very different stresses on the body.

Physiofit for Later Life Classes
Here at Physiofit we know that exercise is important to maintain your strength and balance. Keeping active can help to reduce the risk of falls. The government advises older people to aim to be active every day and to:

-
build up to two-and-a-half hours per week of moderate intensity activity (activities that get you breathing harder and your heart pumping faster)
-
do activities that improve muscle strength at least twice a week
-
do some activities that improve balance and co-ordination twice a week.

We are delighted to be able to offer an exercise class aimed at keeping you “Fit for later life” led by a later life trained physiotherapist. The classes are in blocks of 6 weeks, with classes kept small to allow close supervision and a bespoke programme for each participant. We will identify areas that you need to target whilst working on general strength, flexibility, core stability, breathing control, balance and endurance. Our physiotherapist is able to answer individual questions as well as provide general tips e.g. on how to easily get up from the floor.

Pre-booking is essential and information on dates can be obtained from the office, or by clicking on the button below.

Junior and Senior Core Classes
Physiofit now runs core classes at FITISM for both adults and children over 10 years.

Junior Classes:
The junior classes (10-14 years) aim to implement a bespoke movement curriculum to build physical robustness, enhance coordinative movement, increase mobility, assist with recovery and also educate junior participants. This is especially important as the transition into and through the developmental stage of growing can bring about growth related injuries and can also affect physical sports performance.

The classes are a fun and dynamic way of educating juniors and giving them practical support in management of injuries, reducing the risk of injuries, and generally helping them movement more fluently to improve sporting performance.

Exercises in the class will be progressive in nature, beginning with the fundamentals of movement, which will develop over a term. The movement curriculum will cover a wide range of exercises, from core control, mobility, landing mechanics, suspension training and myofascial release techniques.
Classes are tailored to the individuals needs and as a result a maximum of 12 spaces per class is limited. Classes are at Fitism, Kings Road, Wilmslow, SK9 5PZ on a Wednesday (5pm-6pm and 6pm-7pm) on Wednesdays during term time. The classes run on a block basis and must be pre-booked via reception.
Classes are £8 each, with your first class free.

Adult core classes:
After the success of the junior core classes, we have now expanded the number of core classes to offer ones for slightly older juniors (age 14+) and adults who want to get stronger and fitter and a specific running strength and conditioning class. The classes are run by either a physio or sports rehabilitator ensuring that the sessions are safe, yet fun and challenging. We combine the best of yoga, pilates and movement dynamics to ensure that we cover all aspects of injury prevention and improve performance. The classes are targeted at sports such as golf, rugby, hockey and running but are suitable for any adult wishing to get stronger and more flexible.

Classes are on Monday 6:30pm; Thursdays at 7.15pm and cost £8 per session, with your first class free.
