"We will work with you proactively to support you in reaching long lasting optimum health and peak performance.”

Injury Prevention Screening

Preventing an injury and optimising performance is key to us all, whether on the sports field, at work or at home. Missing time off work or sport is costly and frustrating so it is best to be proactive and book an MOT screening today to help identify any imbalances in your body. We have screening programmes available for all ages from the child as they grow, sports prevention packages through to falls prevention services for the older patient.

Prehab differs from rehab in that we work with you to prevent injury rather than waiting until it is too late. We have our car serviced regularly to prevent it breaking down at just that wrong moment and the same logic and care should be applied to our body.

Why Do You Need an MOT Screening?

  • To prevent injury

  • To identify the cause of an injury

  • Improve your posture – especially with increased use of computers and tablets

  • To help development during growth spurts

  • Enhance performance

  • To assist a return to a chosen sport or activity

  • To establish an individual gym or fitness programme

  • To reduce the risk of falling

  • In preparation for surgery

  • To address strength or flexibility issues

  • In preparation for a holiday such as skiing or a marathon

The Physiofit MOT Screening Includes:-

  • Digital postural analysis

  • Flexibility

  • Balance

  • Muscle strength and weakness

  • Core control

  • Agility

  • Functional movement patterns

  • A personalised exercise programme which includes online video clips of your exercises to address any restrictions or weaknesses.

Injury Prevention Screening
Sports Injury Prevention

Sports Injury Prevention

Our baseline screening programme forms the basis of all of our sport specific screening packages. It can be adapted to suit most sports and activities to analyse the potential risks to the body through repetitive movements and postures.

We have extensive knowledge of young athlete development ensuring that children achieve the correct advice about appropriate exercise during their vital growth spurts. Children need to relearn functional movements and regain balance and coordination after each major growth spurt so screening should be done more regularly during peak growth times.

For our later life patients, we also have our Functional MOT.

The Functional MOT

At Physiofit we have a pro-active approach to maintaining and achieving the best from your body throughout your life, and in the same way as our young athletes can learn a lot about their bodies and so find ways of maximising their abilities, so can the older person. We use the Functional Fitness MOT screening tool developed by the BHF National Centre for Physical Activity and Health at Loughborough University working in partnership with Glasgow Caledonian University.

This allows us to compare anybody over the age of 60 with a verified large sample group. We will identify:

  • Areas of weakness

  • Lack of strength

  • Lack of endurance

  • Deterioration in balance

  • Loss of flexibility

Being proactive means we can identify problems at an early stage before function is impaired or pain develops.  We can then use the results of the MOT to highlight your strengths and weaknesses and design an individual, bespoke exercise programme that helps you target the specific areas you need most.

This can be integrated with any of other screening packages for walkers, cyclists, swimmers, golfers, runners and other sports specific activities.

Don't let injury and pain disrupt your life - be proactive now and start with a screening to identify where you need to target your efforts.

The Functional MOT
Physiofit Falls Prevention Service

Physiofit Falls Prevention Service

“Half of people who have a fall will fall again within the next 12 months”

As we get older the risk of falls increase, with most taking place within the home. The good news is that there are some simple changes experienced physiotherapists can make to prevent falls, which can help patients feel safer and remain independent in their own home. â€‹

Physiofit have several services available to help reduce your risk of falling:

  • 1:1 multifactorial assessment within your home setting

  • 1:1 functional MOT either in our clinic or within your home

  • Balance retraining

  • Physiofit for later life group fitness class in Alderley Edge

About the Falls Prevention Service

  • We have a team of experienced physiotherapists led by Fiona Ridler who work in the community and will contact a client to give falls prevention advice and support

  • We can arrange a home visit to carry out a Falls Prevention Check including a multifactorial risk assessment of the home environment

  • We will teach a patient specific exercises to address any strength, balance and core stability issues identified. We will use digital or printed exercise sheets

  • Both oral and written education will be offered to patients and carers where relevant.

  • We use reliable outcome measures for patients to track their progress every 6 weeks, to show their risk of falls reducing over time and inspire confidence

What is a Multi-Factorial Assessment?

In line with NICE guidelines on falls for older people, anyone who has experienced one or more, non-accidental falls, over the age of 65 should be offered a 1:1 multifactorial assessment.

Physiofit have implemented their own service to restore confidence to individuals who may require it. It includes:

  • Identification of a patient's falls history including how, when, where and frequency

  • Assessment of gait, balance and mobility, and muscle weakness

  • Assessment of osteoporosis risk

  • Assessment of home hazards ensuring appropriate equipment is in situ

  • Assessment of the older person's perceived functional ability and fear relating to falling

  • General cardiovascular fitness

  • Medication and medical conditions â€‹– some medication can increase the risk of falls

  • Assessment of visual impairment

  • Assessment of cognitive impairment and neurological examination

  • Assessment of urinary incontinence which when present may precipitate falls

  • We work closely with Pace Podiatry if biomechanical adaptations are necessary to the feet or shoes

Physiofit for Later Life Class

Here at Physiofit we know that exercise is important to maintain your strength and balance. Keeping active can help to reduce the risk of falls. The government advises older people to aim to be active every day and to:

  • build up to two-and-a-half hours per week of moderate intensity activity (activities that get you breathing harder and your heart pumping faster)

  • do activities that improve muscle strength at least twice a week

  • do some activities that improve balance and co-ordination twice a week.

We are delighted to be able to offer an exercise class aimed at keeping you “Fit for later life” led by a later life trained physiotherapist. The classes are in blocks of 6 weeks, with classes kept small to allow close supervision and a bespoke programme for each participant. We will identify areas that you need to target whilst working on general strength, flexibility, core stability, breathing control, balance and endurance. Our physiotherapist is able to answer individual questions as well as provide general tips e.g. on how to easily get up from the floor.

Pre-booking is essential and information on dates can be obtained from the office.
